Then I made the move to the private sector. This was a fairly logical step, considering the fact that I grew up in an entrepreneurial family. In 2014, I started working as the business partner of Ben Zuidema – the Netherlands’ most well-known private detective. In 2018, our ambitions no longer seemed to match and I decided to set up my own detective agency. It was then that Recherchebureau Vullers h/o JohnV-detectives became a fact. This move gave me more room to pursue my own direction in which both the approach to business and the selection of clients better suited me. My new approach combined with my extensive experience with the police and elsewhere has not gone unnoticed by national TV and radio programmes. In addition to being regularly interviewed and asked questions on TV and radio programmes, I work with my team on the back end of TV programmes to support the editors by carrying out preliminary or other research.

I worked for the Dutch police for over 32 years. After years of working in the general police service, I made the switch to ‘opsporing’ (detection), better known as criminal investigation. For many years, I worked as a detective in various disciplines in the field of criminal investigation, and I was given the opportunity to progress into an operational management position within criminal investigation. In that role, I was in charge of large-scale domestic and international criminal investigations into serious, organized crime such as drug crime, murder, manslaughter, and extortion. I also worked as an assistant public prosecutor for the last 10 years of my time with the Dutch police. Eventually, I got the chance to develop into a tactical leader within ‘opsporing’ (detection).
Drive and passion
Thanks to my many years of professional experience during my policing career, combined with the experience I gained as a self-employed person and now as a renowned private investigator, all the pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place for me. The combination of all these experiences has provided me with a more than adequate basis to offer my clients a very comprehensive range of services and advice. My drive in this work comes from the passion with which I do this work. Now that I have combined the two worlds of being self-employed and a detective, I feel in my element as a private investigator.
